Brain And The Miracle Of Nature

The human brain is a true miracle of nature. It is the most complex organ in our bodies and controls virtually every part. Still, we don’t yet fully understand Linkhow our mind works. Researchers around the world are working diligently in understand and piercing some of its mysteries. Let’s discuss some more interesting details about the brain and how it impacts every aspect of our lives.

The brain controls the way in which we respond to external stimuli. Every thing we see, hear, touch and feel is controlled and interpreted by the brain. Brain research shows that if we touch something and it feels hot, the nerves in our fingers send a signal to our brains and it interprets the input as hot.

The brain then sends a signal to our hand to pull away from the hot object so we don’t hurt ourselves any worse than we might otherwise have to. The whole process occurs almost instantaneously with virtually no conscious effort on our parts.

But the thing we sets us apart from virtually all other animals is our ability to take in input and formulate decisions or actions based on limited input and information. Our ability to discriminate and make conscious decisions is an amazing task. Still, it is very important to note than a lot of our processes and daily routines are accomplished unconsciously. The unconscious mind plays a very important role in our life and determines many of our daily actions. But even on a rudimentary level, the brain’s ability to control virtually every part of our bodies is an amazing thing. For example many functions are controlled without conscious thought. The brain tells our hearts to beat and how fast depending on the amount of exertion we are placing on our bodies. This is because it knows that if we are working harder, the heart has to pump faster in order to provide more oxygenated blood to our cells.

We would also automatically breathe faster so put more oxygen in the blood as well. Again as indicated earlier, these kinds of functions occur with virtually no conscious thought on our parts.

The technical magazines make a very big deal about modern computer’s ability to perform parallel processing. Well our brains do this all this the time. It is truly multitasking on steroids.

This is much we have learned about the manner in which our brains operate. But there is certainly much more to learn. We may never totally understand exactly how our brains operate but if we take care of it through good nutrition and effective stimulation, it should be able to enhance the quality of our lives for many years.

With this new brain research, exergames may be just another tool for people have been looking for to improve cognitive function. The recent study looked at the executive cognitive function of over 100 older adults from eight different retirement communities. There is no question that more brain research must be done before seniors can begin to throw the traditional exercise equipment out the door and invest solely in exergames. Researchers are curious as to what kind of an impact physical exercise can have with mental interaction and some brain studies are being conducted around that topic. Brain training is effective and we can assume that combined with physical exercise, even not at the same time, would significantly improve cognitive functions.

Furtherneuroscientific research must also be conducted to on a larger population to see what kind of cognitive benefits are found. But for the time being, there is tremendous reason to be optimistic over the current results that have been found.

Neuroscience And Neurons

There are over 100 billion nerve cells in your body called neurons, but do you have any idea what they are or what they do? There are so many of them in your body it only makes sense to wonder what they are, so let’s take a look at these nerve cells to find out just what they are.

Neurons are similar to any other cell in your body in a number of ways, except they are specialized to transmit information throughout the body. Their primary responsibility is to communicate information, both chemically and electrically. There are different types of nerve cells that are each responsible for a different task.

Nerve cells that carry information from sensory receptor cells to the brain are called sensory neurons. Nerve cells that transmit information from the brain to your muscles are called motor neurons. Finally, nerve cells that communicate information between different neurons in your body are called interneurons.

Neurons are similar with other cells in many ways. They both contain a nucleus that holds genetic information, are surrounded by a membrane that protects the cell, and contain organelles, such as cytoplasm, Golgi bodies, and mitochondria, which support the life of the cell.

Just as there are similarities, there are also differences. First, neurons stop reproducing shortly after birth. This means that some areas of your brain will have less neurons then when you were born because the nerve cells die and are not replaced.

Another difference is neurons have a membrane that is designed to send information to other cells. There are specialized structures called axons and dendrites that were built to transmit and receive information. Neurons release chemicals called neurotransmitters between cells on connections called synapses. These chemicals are what create the communication between each neuron cell.

Just as an example, imagine that your computer is a sensory receptor cell. Now imagine you are posting something on the internet, this would be similar to a sensory neuron being sent to the brain. The sensory neuron, or internet post, travels through your Ethernet cord, or synapse, and arrives at the brain.

Neurons are truly amazing cells that essentially control our entire body thanks to their communication with receptor cells and our brain. The brain is an amazing organ and the most complex part of our bodies. There is much we have learned about our brains but there is much left to study and discover. We will discuss here some selected research findings which have provided us with important information pertaining to how our brains function and operate.

An important area of brain research has focused on the manner in which brain cells and nerve cells transmit information within the brain and central nervous system itself and from all the different parts of our body.

Throughout the day, our brains use billions of brain cells which are called neurons which transmit signals to each other (you can think of electric signals). They do so at billions of junctures called synapses. This is a very fast and efficient process.

This process is central to how we think, remember, plan, reason, and move. If something occurs which causes any part of this signal transmission to break down, the results can be devastating. A number of brain disorders including autism, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, and epilepsy have been linked to problems with the synapse and this communication network.

Research has helped scientists to better understand what is going on at the synapse level and what could be done to restore the signaling if for any reason this would prove to not be working properly. One of the discoveries is that different molecules play a pivotal role in making sure that the neurotransmitters are properly released.

Some important results from this research are helping us to better understand the cellular processes which are involved in neural communication and a better understanding of the problems that can occur in the release of neurotransmitters which can lead to various brain disorders and diseases.

There are many problems which could be alleviated if we could somehow improve the functioning of the synapses. Recent research findings will hopefully provide some important new treatments for a large number of disorders.
